Funny (or sad) story for the day. Cole woke up quite fussy from his nap yesterday. He seemed very upset and I had a hard time figuring out what was going on. Finally, suspecting a nightmare, asked him if something scared him. "yes, mama, piles". "Piles? Hmm...can you show me where the piles are in your room?". We went back to the room. Cole looked around quite intently and then informed me that the piles were gone.
That night, Cole refused to go to bed. He is struggling with a cough right now so I was trying to figure out if the breathing was the issue or if this was simply a behavioral thing. After well over 30 minutes of telling him he needed to get back into bed and sleep (the whole time he wanted the light on and wanted to read books sitting up in his bed). I tried to lay down with him, but he refused to lay his head on the pillow. Finally, I said "Cole, you need to go to sleep!" "No, mama, I no sleep" "Cole, you have to sleep. Can you tell me why you can't sleep?" "D'ere are piles in the room!" (Oh, poor kid is afraid to fall asleep!) So, I immediately prayed with Cole. After that, Cole relaxed, laid his head on the pillow, and fell asleep shortly.
The next morning, I was reading Winnie the Pooh to Cole and he pointed to the picture and said "look, piles, mama". "Ah, you mean spiders?" "Wait a minute, did you just say piles??" "Cole, are there spiders in your room" "Yes, mama, piles!" Poor guy has been afraid of spiders in his room! As soon as I told Nick he was ready to call the exterminator right there and then:-)LOL

Why does he call spiders 'piles?'
He can't say the "sp" blend so it comes out "p". He can't say "der" so he drops the "d". So, he says piers--somehow the "r" sounds more like an "l". So, you end up with piles. He says "tiles" for tires. so, he's at least consistent.
