Shopping at Target

Most of my stories lately have been short snippets so I've been posting them on Facebook.  This stories a little longer, so I'm posting it here.

I took Cole shopping a Target last night...mainly to get out of the house so Nick could study...but also to get valentine's gifts for his class.  At first he didn't believe me when I said he was going to have a party at school next week. "No, mama, we no party at school!" (too cute:-)
Anyway, as soon as we got to Target, he insisted on "holding hand" rather than sitting in the shopping cart.  I've recently gotten in the habit of letting Cole just walk around Target with me rather than ridding in the cart.  I never buy more than a few items at Target and the store is pretty un-crowded, so it seems like a perfect oportunity to walk with him.  He's SO HAPPY not to be in the cart that he really is on his best behavior!
We stopped by the Valentine's department at the front of the store.  While I was looking for items for his class, he found a medium size box of chocolates in the shape of a red heart.  He scooped it up and dropped it in the basket.  "Ok, mom, we all done!" (I had to laugh...such a male response to gift shopping!).  I found mini playdough canisters that I thought would be perfect instead of candy.  Cole imediately agreed with me, "yes, mama, playdough, put in basket!"  Then, I found the boxes of "school" gift cards.  I found a Toy Story 3 box, handed it to Cole and said "Do you like this one, or should we look for something else"  "I like" (drop in basket).  Next I found little heart shape boxes of chocolates for his teachers.  "Cole, which one do you want to give to Miss Bet?" I handed him several options.  He grabbed the first one he could reach "'tis one!" And we proceeded to find 6 more boxes for all of his other teachers...each time Cole grabbed the very first box he could touch. (Man, shopping with boys is no fun!)
Then, to kill time (since we clearly only spent about 5 mins on Valentine's stuff), we walked around the rest of the store.  I was looking at household items, while Cole was running up and down the various isles carrying his Toy Story Cards asking me "what d'eese?"  Finally, I told Cole "let's go see the toys", meanwhile I stopped to take a peek at the bedding selections.  Cole came up behind me "Mama, d'is is not toys..." (shaking his head at me like he was teaching me something!).
Ah, shopping with Cole is so entertaining!
Finally, we left the toy section, but we only got halfway to the front of the store when it dawn on him that we were not looking at any more toys.  So, he put his foot down, looked up at me (I was a good 5 feed in front of him). (In his most serious "im in charge" voice) "Mama, you GO BACK D'ERE!" pointing to where we'd come from! (LOL)
Then when we got to the car, I opened the passenger door to drop off the bag, then open Cole's door to put him in his car seat.  Mam oh man, did that kid complain about not being able to sit in the front seat. "NO, mama, I sit d'ere" (So, let's see...that's 10 more years or so of me hearing him complain about sitting in the back?? Yikes!)

Too cute, Leslie. I'm so glad you are recording these little experiences. some day you'll look back and remember these days, when almost everything he does and says is cute.
