Good News from the Pulmologist

Woot, woot.  We got some good news on Friday after seeing the Pulmoligist for the first time since the hospitalization for pneumonia.  She was very pleased with Cole's progress.  There is no evidence of fluid left in his lungs, but there is evidence of some inflamation that needs ongoing treatment.  She felt that there was no need to continue with the steroid (via nebulizer) and we could switch to a chewable tablet of an anti-inflamatory drug that will help his asthma-like symptoms.  It will take a month to gradually switch over from the nebulizer to the chewable tablet...but this is still good news.  The nebulizer treatments have been reduced from 20min sessions to 10min sessions...more good news.  She anticipates that we will go back to the steriod in the fall but only half a dose.  All in all this is good news.  They warnned us that with this type of thing they rarely make any drastic changes in medication and to anticipate only small modifications over time; but, this change in medication seems more drastic than what they were predicting, so we are happy with that.  Cole, as always, does a real good job with his nebulizer treatments (which they anticipate switching to an inhaler (modified for young children) in the fall) and he thinks his chewable tablet is candy and always asks for more!:-) Too cute.

Yay! That is excellent news! Reducing the nebulizer treatments will be a very nice change for you I'm sure! Glad that he likes the chewable tablets too, it's so nice when you have kids that don't fight you when you need to give them medicine!
