Cole has had multiple doctors appointments lately. All check-up appointments with various specialist as well as his 3-year well-check visit. Well, he's going through this new phase where he will not speak when the doctor is in the room. He'll talk non-stop in the waiting room, he'll answer the nurses questions, he'll talk to me non-stop while waiting for the doctor, but then he'll curl up on my lap and not speak as soon as he sees the doctor. Well, because of his history with ear trouble, a common question has been "how is his speech?", "is his verbal skills progressing appropriately?" "Can he say 3-4 word sentences?" "Do you think he has at least 200 vocab words? (one doctor actually asked me if I thought he could say 20 words!!!)" etc...etc... I answer these questions as best as I can, but I can tell that the doctors are skeptical considering Cole doesn't utter a sound the whole time.
This latest doctors visit I was tempted to say: "Well, a minute ago my son was discussing how the whale sticker on the wall looked like a Humpback Whale, although he then commented that this whale didn't have any baleen, so he wasn't sure how this whate was going to eat!" (Is that good enough? Just wondering...).
