Okay, so Cole has been going through a spell of bad napping. Part of it may be my fault b/c I drag him around with me on weekends and some evenings, so he doesn't have a good routine. He has never napped well and I kind of put it low down on my list of priorities b/c he was sleeping well at night and wasn't fussy during the day...so what was the harm in not napping that much? When it was just me at home with him, I was able to get him on a pretty good schedule and he could take at least 2 naps during the day longer than 1 hour--but it took a little work. Once, he started daycare, I no longer had control over his nap routine. Oh, and he seemed to change from day to day--one day he would take 3 naps, the next maybe 1 nap--but neither seemed to effect his mood or his night schedule. So, I gave up worring about. Until now...
Yesterday, I picked him up from daycare and he had had only 2 half-hour naps that day and he was fussy when I picked him up. My plan was to get him down for a nap right after I fed him (not the normal routine...but he NEEDED some sleep). Well, I tried for over an hour and then finally threw in the towel and took him shopping with me instead (I was frustrated and needed a change of scenery--he was a sweet little angel in his front carrier!!!).
Well tonight, same scenario, no good naps at daycare (or with his dad at home), so I get to spend an hour trying to get a fussy baby to take a nap. Finally, I just hung some toys from his crib and let him play. Figured, at least he could get some "quiet time".
So, my new plan is for "quiet time" in the crib. Seems to work okay until he looses his pacifier. Well, I'm still scratching my head, because I have no trouble putting him down to sleep for the night...but I can't for the life of me get him to even close his eyes at nap time! Well, I do know that he is over tired, which is probably at the root of the problem. Oh well...life goes on.
